Beloved in Christ,
In our PITH Talk Show #7 on Saturday, April 24 2021 at 10am (Malaysian time, GMT +8) we will talk about reaching the young, and how we could train the young for leadership.
You have may wondered how it feels like to grow up in an environment where there is always anxiety and maybe danger. As a Palestinian youth? An Israeli? Or perhaps a Burmese? I feel sad today reading TIME about young people joining the armed resistance against the military government in Myanmar.
Elsewhere even in peaceful countries children and young adults remain vulnerable, with the age groups 10 to 29 collectively having a high number of suicides.
Our guests:
Abraham Thomas was a printer when he heard God’s call. He resigned from his work in Bahrain and returned to India. In 2000, India’s population crossed the 1 billion mark. Today there are about 1.4 billion people. Only 3% are Christians.
About 30% of the population falls into the 0-14 years age group. That is about 420 million. Clearly there is a need to reach the young. Abraham’s organization trained 250 master teachers in 15 years who in turn trained 7,000 teachers who are reaching 300,000 children today.
Resources have been developed to reach children in challenging situations. Come hear Abraham share about training children.
Greg Smelker will help us look at resources to train leaders in our assemblies. There are traditional models of church leadership but they cause burnout among leaders. The assemblies have always believed in the plurality of elders but how do you train elders as well as young leaders?
Greg will introduce School of the Shepherds (SOTS) which is designed to supplement local church elder and leader development. There is quality content which can be adapted for use in the local context. This is already happening in Africa where Greg reports a great revival.
There are about 800 videos in Biblical Eldership Resources (BER) and other resources. Come hear Greg share about using SOTS for your assembly.
